Week 4 Action Step | True Identity

If you follow Jesus, this is what the Bible says is true of you… and it remains true after mistakes, wounds, or even when others—including yourself—have a different opinion. Your identity isn’t fragile. It isn’t something you have to earn or prove. It’s a gift from God, secured by Christ, and revealed by the Holy Spirit.

In Christ, you are…

  • Loved (Romans 8:38-39)

  • Forgiven (Ephesians 1:7)

  • Holy and blameless (Colossians 1:22)

  • A child of God (John 1:12)

  • An heir to God’s promises (Romans 8:17)

  • A new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17)

  • Chosen (1 Peter 2:9)

  • God’s masterpiece (Ephesians 2:10)

  • The righteousness of God in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:21)

  • A temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19)

  • A citizen of heaven (Philippians 3:20)

  • More than a conqueror (Romans 8:37)

  • Set free from sin and death (Romans 8:2)

  • Seated with Christ in heavenly places (Ephesians 2:6)

  • An ambassador of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20)

  • A royal priest (1 Peter 2:9)

  • The light of the world (Matthew 5:14)

  • Salt of the earth (Matthew 5:13)

  • Adopted into God’s family (Ephesians 1:5)

  • Protected by God’s power (1 Peter 1:5)

  • Firmly established in Christ (2 Corinthians 1:21-22)

  • Victorious in Christ (1 Corinthians 15:57)

  • Called for a purpose (2 Timothy 1:9)

  • A friend of God (John 15:15)

  • Blessed with every spiritual blessing (Ephesians 1:3)

This is who you are. Not because of what you’ve done, but because of what Christ has done for you.

But let’s be honest—there are times when it doesn’t feel true. Sometimes, lies feel more real than the truth. The Holy Spirit invites us into a process of shedding false identities and embracing what God has spoken over us.

If you’re willing to listen to what He says in the Scriptures, He will confirm what is true in your heart. And the truth He speaks will set you free.

Four Questions to Ask the Holy Spirit

Find a quiet place, open your heart, and invite the Holy Spirit to speak.

Remember, His voice is not often audible. The Holy Spirit’s voice sounds like a thought full of love and truth. His voice flows through our hearts and minds, often showing up as a quiet inner voice, idea, or visual picture that is seen with the eye of the heart.

1. Holy Spirit, is there any false name or identity I’ve believed about myself?

Ask Him to search your heart. Psalm 139:23-24 says, “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.”

What comes to mind? Write it down. Be honest about whatever surfaces. The Holy Spirit never reveals something to shame you, but to set you free.

2. Holy Spirit, what do You want to do with this?

Ask and wait. Let His voice remind you of what is true and loving. If He shows you something, write it down. If you don’t sense anything, simply acknowledge that. The goal is not to create an experience but to remain open and truthful before God.

3. Holy Spirit, what do You call me?

Ask, “Who do You say I am?” Then, listen. His answer may come as a word, a phrase, a Scripture, or a quiet conviction. However He speaks, write it down. His voice will always complement or echo what is true in Scripture. When you write it down, you can test it later.

4. Holy Spirit, when You see me living in my true identity, what do I look like?

Ask and receive what He reveals. If nothing comes, that’s okay too. The purpose is not to force an answer but to make space for His voice.

Keep Asking, Keep Listening

These aren’t one-time questions; they’re an ongoing conversation. Lies can creep in over time, but the Holy Spirit always leads us back to truth. Make space to ask, listen, and receive. He delights in revealing who you truly are, and His words will always lead you into life.
